I realize McCain’s ad comparing Obama to celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears has been in the news for a while. But I can’t help but add a comment. First, the ad is pretty damn effective.
Second, the complaints were ridiculous. Bob Herbert complained that McCain unfairly used phallic symbols in the ad, when the supposed phallic symbol (there was only one) in question was in fact the Victory Column in Tiergarten Park in Berlin – a place where Obama decided to give a speech. The other ludicrous complaint was that the celebrity ad contained subtle racist undertones. But who first connected Obama to Paris Hilton? Once again, it was Barack Obama.
Finally, as everyone is now aware, Paris Hilton has produced her own “advertisement,” in which she encourages everyone to vote for her. Unfortunately for Obama, her energy plan makes his look even more ridiculous.
McCain should be pounding Obama on the energy issue.
Ohio: No Businesses Wanted – UPDATE
August 9, 2008
Forbes ranks Ohio 39th on its list of Best States for Business. Worse, Ohio is ranked 47th in terms of growth prospects. Worse still, four Ohio cities – Youngstown, Canton, Dayton, and Cleveland – were ranked in the top (bottom?) ten of Forbes’ Fastest Dying Cities list. Ouch.
Desperation time?

Apparently, McCain’s ad mocking the “chosen one” aura that surrounds Obama is an attempt to label Obama as the anti-christ. Hat tip from Jennifer Rubin, who adds: “Tip for Obama fans: when you make your candidate into a messiah-like figure, create totalitarian iconography and celebrate your candidate’s gibberish as if it were sacred text you are asking for it.”
Umm, yeah, just a little bit…
Says it all…

Well, this certainly won’t help the economy in Ohio. Are they trying to encourage people to leave?
